Natalia Lazurca

Natalia Lazurca’s practice revolves around the fundamental nature of objects. Her work, spanning painting and ceramics, does not just depict recognizable forms but rather transforms them into symbolic presences that oscillate between the banal and the profound. As an act of defiance against boredom and routine, she transforms seemingly trivial "things" into objects of contemplation, imbuing them with new meaning. Her work invites us to slow down, to reconsider the overlooked, and to find sense in the in-between spaces of life. Yet, despite its metaphorical echoes, Lazurca’s aesthetic remains playful, at times resembling the naive charm of a child's drawing, which paradoxically underscores the deeper existential undertones of her work.

Natalia Lazurca (b. 1995, Timișoara, Romania) is a visual artist based in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Painting from the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca in 2017, followed by a Master's degree in Ceramics at the same university. Her academic achievements include scholarships for study programs in Liège, Belgium, and Rome, Italy.

She held solo exhibitions at SABOT in 2024 (waters/lusters/gems) and at BARIL gallery in 2018 (Well, Well, Believe It or Not / She Covered Every Last Inch of the Entire Sidewalk). Additionally, she has participated in numerous group exhibitions, including BT Contemporary Art Program 2025, Contemporar, Cluj-Napoca (2026); I Despise All Movement That Displaces Line at Conector / OFF-space, Cluj-Napoca (2023), Diploma 2019 at The Institute, Bucharest (2019), Stepping Under the Mirror at Matca Art Space, Cluj-Napoca (2017), and the Media Art Festival in Arad, participating in both its 3rd edition (DA, DA, DA, 2016) and 5th edition (De Rerum Natura, 2018). Her work was also featured in 89plusplus #1 at non+ultra, Cluj-Napoca (2016), and I Am What I Am at BARIL, Cluj-Napoca (2015).
