Joe Fletcher Orr
Joe Fletcher Orr (b. 1991, Birkenhead, UK; lives and works in Liverpool, UK) works with a wide range of media, creating pieces that initially seem like quips or one-liners. However, they reveal a complex relationship between himself, his family, and the artworld. Often collaborating with family members, Orr’s sculptures, performances, and installations employ humor to challenge the seriousness of the art scene and the authority of the art object. He credits his ability to poke fun at his own work and contemporary art to visits with his father to art galleries as a young boy, where he learned to laugh at the works on display.
